REVIEW: Pebble Time

It’s Time…Pebble Time

One of the first things I put on in the morning when getting ready, is my Pebble Time smart watch.

Being an early adopter back in 2013 with the original Pebble, I got hooked hard and fell in love with the ease and simplicity it gave me.  Yes, I had to deal with a lot of “is that the Samsung watch” in the earlier days when they made a mad dash to get their first Gear released for the holiday in 2013 and nowadays, “is that the Apple Watch.”   I actually cringe when I hear that and usually respond, “No, this is the Pebble and the reason Samsung, Apple and all the others even have a watch now.”

Basically, you can’t go wrong with any of Pebble’s three versions (Original, Steel and Pebble Time). I am fortunate enough to be an early owner of the newest Pebble Time and I will admit, they took a great product and made it even better, lighter and with added color.  I love the screen even more as I can still see it clearly in direct sunlight and the color adds a nice touch. True, the screen doesn’t look as nice as Samsung and Apple’s but the watch also costs MUCH less (at $199).  More importantly, I charge my watch up once a week rather than adding it to my line-up of items that need recharging each night.

To dive into the watch itself, like my iPhone, I have tons of apps I have downloaded.  They have a huge app store where you can find so many different apps to download (free and ones to purchase), as well as watch faces.  There is even the ability to create your own watch face, which is so easy to do.  I would say that out of the 30 faces I have downloaded, I probably use 4 in rotation.

On the app side, things can get crazy. I have assigned one of my two shortcut buttons to open my Nest thermostat app.  I can control all the functions on my wrist that I can via the phone app. My other shortcut button takes me to my Wink app where I can control all the Wi-Fi bulbs I have in my house.  Aside from those two apps, there are so many other features I use the watch for.

For instance, the standard built in music control comes in handy. From sitting at your desk to driving, you have that simple and close control to what is playing. I have a multi timer that I love to use for grilling. I can run as many timers as I want at once and once again, from my wrist and not worrying about taking the phone out. There is even camera control to snap your picture. I can go on and on about all the great apps and watch faces, so I actually created a Facebook page that you can feel free to browse, join and look through the photo albums of some of the great finds.

This pic is of my two models (Original and Pebble Time, both with after-market bands).

Yes, there are some out there that love the ability to have a conversation through their watch like the Samsung and Apple, but if you are not in a quiet environment, how good will you really sound to the person on the other end?  While Pebble doesn’t offer that (they do have a microphone now to be able to respond to messages), they excel in other areas that are more important, such as battery life, visibility outdoors, and water resistant to 30 meters/99 feet. YES, you technically don’t ever have to take the watch off, even to go into the water. It’s also a much lighter watch and you can very EASILY interchange the 22mm bands with any kind of band you like!

With smart bands starting to pop up or buzz the internet, Pebble and others are already gearing up for that to be the next great addition to your wrist.  So, my recommendation, if you want to add some fashion and tech to your everyday life, go to https://getpebble.com for the price points they have for all of their models. There is one that will suit your needs without breaking the bank…
