REVIEW: Vantrue T2 Dash Cam

Now a days, you can never be to careful when you are on the road and/or what you might see. Regardless if you are the safest driver in the world, you always have to worry about the other people around you. One way, that is becoming an increasingly more popular way to safeguard yourself is, installing a dash cam on your windshield. As they say, the camera never lies, whether it’s showing what happened during an accident or spotting something incredible!

To that point, there are a lot of dash cam manufacturers and models on the market to chose from. I recently got the T2 model from Vantrue to test out.

Here are some reasons why I chose the T2:

  • Power cord options: The T2 includes three ways you can connect the dash cam when it’s mounted. 1) Cigarette lighter plug, 2) OBD port connector and 3) USB cable. It’s nice to have so many options as every vehicle’s layout is different.
  • Super Capacitor & Heat Resistant: What this means is that the T2 has a built in super-capacitor that allows the camera to record in both hot and cold weather, giving it a longer life

  • High Resolution & Super Night Vision: The T2 features an advanced Sony Exmor IMX323 sensor and NOVATEK NT96655 processor. The camera captures the road front at 160° to get good image quality and video footage without distortion at 1920x1080P@30fps or 1280X720P@30fps

  • 24 Hour Wave Guard Parking Monitoring: The wave guard indicator works by emitting a microwave signal in front of the vehicle, consuming fairly little power when plugged in with the OBD cord. When an object interferes with the beam, the T2 will start auto-recording

  • G-Sensor & Audio Recording: When the built-in gravity sensor detects a sudden shake or collision, the T2 will lock any important footage from being overwritten and the built-in microphone will also record any sound that is picked up

  • Loop Recording: Automatically overwrites the oldest recordings with the newest ones when the memory card is full

  • GPS (optional): Allows you to track the driving route, location and speed on your computer. (Optional GPS mount is needed)

As you just read, there are some great features that I listed that are packed into this dash cam. The size also is what got my attention, as it fits nicely next to the rear-view mirror without blocking and taking up much space on the windshield. Also, using the OBD 2 port (that is equipped on every vehicle made) cable, you always have a very low voltage trickle of power going to the T2, so you can essentially be recording 24/7 if you prefer, if you park in a lot or public area.

Here is some video footage in both daytime and night, as well as in the rain. I do have a Jeep Wrangler with rugged tires, so I am assuming that is why the video is shaky as you see because, when I am driving at a low speed, it is much smoother and you can read the signs better. Regardless, the Vantrue T2 still does a good job of recording everything I am seeing.

So if you are looking for a dash cam to be your second set of eyes on the road, I would recommend Vantrue and if the T2 isn’t exactly what you want, they have over a dozen other models, all varying in features and quality!
