When setting up the system, if you don’t have a smart home hub such as Wink or other various brands, leakSMART has their own hub that connects all the sensors to the Valve and your app so the communication can get through.

If you use the main water valve shut off, a professional is recommended to install.  The company does sell a brass push-to-connect pipe thread adapter for those who feel comfortable cutting a pipe on their own and not needing to do any soldering.

A nice plus of having the valve connected, besides if a water leak is detected and the Valve shuts the line down automatically, you also have the option to close the water main line if you are going away on vacation, etc…

There is also an option of just using your sensors to monitor any water leak and alert you via an app but eliminating shutting the water line off upon detection. If you chose that path, you can just buy leakSMART sensors and connect with a smart home hub that works with ZigBee products.
