REVIEW: Kwikset Kēvo (2nd Gen) Bluetooth Smart Lock

With so many people converting their homes’ to becoming “smart,” lets talk about a great product that  not only is smart but will protect and keep your home and belongings safe!

Kwikset is one of the top names known for locks for both residential and commercial – there is a pretty good chance that you already have some type of Kwikset lock in your home. They recently launched their 2nd Generation Kevo touch-to-open Bluetooth smart lock/deadbolt.

 

 

 

Kevo is an easy replacement to any deadbolt you have on any door. It’s available in several finishes to match your other hardware and the installation is very easy and after downloading the Kevo app on any iOS or Android device. There are step by step instructions on how to install and program the lock. (It took me about 10 minutes to complete)

Besides the easy installation, Kwikset offers their SmartKey re-key technology so you can easily make your old keys work with the new lock in seconds.

Let’s dive into some of the great features that the Kevo offers:

• FULL control from the app

• In-home locking and unlocking (you can lock/unlock the Kevo from the app if you are home and within Bluetooth range)

 

                   

 

• eKeys: (this is your virtual key via the Kevo app) You are given 1 Owner and 1 Admin eKey and in-addition, there are:

  • Anytime eKeys never expires (perfect for the family) and can be reassigned from one person to the next and can be purchased for $1.99

  • Scheduled eKeys allow you to pre-set time constraints for the recipient. The “Owner” can control the days and time of the week when the eKey is active

  • Guest eKeys are FREE and allow you to give guests unrestricted access for a 24 hour period and then the eKey is deleted.

 

 

 

• Touch-to-open (as long as your phone is on you with an active eKey, you can touch the Kevo deadbolt anywhere and the lock will unlock/lock. There is an LED color ring around the light that lights up to tell you the status of what Kevo is doing along with a beep)

 

• Use your smartwatch with Android Wear for added convenience

 

• Activity (know when Kevo is being unlocked/locked and by which users. Also can send PUSH notifications to the home screen when the lock is activated)

 

• 

 

 

 

 

• Security technology: (PKI encryption, dual authentication, auto-lock of the app to name a couple safe guards)

• Location Aware: Kevo can detect if you and your phone are inside your home before unlocking to provide that added protection keeping you and your family safe

• Kevo Fob: this key fob fits on a key ring and gives you Touch-to-open convenience without a smartphone (prefect for kids or other family members) for $24.92

 

• Kevo Plus: this gateway gives you the freedom and ability to unlock/lock your Kevo anywhere from your smartphone as long as you have cellular or Wi-Fi. Simply attached the gateway to your router and your Kevo app will update when connected to your account giving you that extra freedom rather than having to be within Bluetooth range to operate the lock. The Kevo Plus is a $99.99 upgrade to your Kevo Smart Lock

To me, the Kevo Smart Lock is a must have addition to any home, especially a smart one. It’s nice to always know if you remembered to lock the door or not, monitor who is coming/going while you are out and have the ability to unlock it for a delivery or guest if you aren’t home yet.
